So I am posting this ‘reveal’ a little early, as we’re not quite done, but I don’t really care*! The last time you saw the deck, it looked like this (pic below) but we’ve made a lot of changes over the holiday weekend.
We have been working on the outdoor area since late May when we first tore off the lower deck to make room for a patio. Now, five weeks later, we’re finally enjoying our backyard the way we should – with summery cocktails in hand! To cap off our festive holiday weekend, we had friends over on Sunday afternoon to enjoy the new deck and see our house progress. We chatted, we laughed, we had a few margaritas, and no one picked up a hammer, needed safety goggles, or asked for more sandpaper. We just simply enjoyed ourselves and it was wonderful.
To refresh your memory, this is what the backyard looked like last June:
And after a year of ignoring it followed by five weeks of working non-stop on it, the back yard now looks like this:
A full year after moving into the house and we were finally (finally!) able to sit at a table with friends and have a fun, relaxing visit. This is why we renovate, this is what we work for – creating spaces that we’ll enjoy for years to come.
*Disclaimer: I said that the deck isn’t quite done and it’s not. We plan to add a small shelf to the top of the railings and paint them white. I imagine we’ll do this in a week or two once we catch our breath. Other (smaller) back yard projects include, replacing the bilco doors, adding outdoor lighting, switching out the sliding glass for French doors, and possibly adding some shrubs along the fence. One day…
