We were delayed not once, not twice, but three times for a drywall delivery and installation. Unforeseen issues kept getting in the way and everything was continuously being pushed back. So as you can imagine, I was getting pretty antsy (read: annoyed, worried, and more than a little cranky). We’d had multiple delays with this project recently, and I really needed drywall to go up for my own sanity.
See, the drywall step is a big one. I always see it as the beginning of the end, construction really starts to round a corner when the drywall is installed. It means that the framing is finished and insulation is in place. It means that windows and doors are hung and working properly. It means that systems are installed, inspected and ready for use. It means that we have proper walls (!!) and we won’t be seeing any more of the ugly behind the scenes. From a morale and progress standpoint, drywall is a biggie.
Our addition is just under a thousand square feet. And in ONE DAY our team installed ALL of the drywall (including the waterproof drywall which is the purple stuff pictured above). Like, whaaaat?! They hustled their way through Good Friday in order to have it done by the holiday weekend. High five, guys!
In addition to drywall (which is HUGE!) we also have siding in the mudroom, and tile in the den, mudroom, balcony, and half bath! The progress this past week was major and it couldn’t have come at a better time. We’ve been living at my parents house since February and they just got back from Key West (for a month!) which basically means, it’s time to move home. Plus the weather is getting nicer and we want to enjoy our house this spring/summer. Hellooooo cookouts!
After talking with our contractor, we can move home as early as next week when the appliances come! We will probably hold off though until all of the mudding and sanding of the drywall is complete, as well as the floors (since we can’t be there for the staining anyway). So as of right now it’s looking like two, maybe three (?) weeks before we can gather up all of our crap (sorry mom – I know it’s a lot!) and finally, officially, move into our house!
But until then we will probably stop by every day to check on things because if drywall means anything, it means the pretty stuff is finally here! 🙂
