Right now in our house we have what I only-sort-of-jokingly call the “Murder Room.” It’s in the basement, has cement block walls, no ceiling, one light that occasionally goes out, and the ugliest dark red carpeting you’ve ever seen. Total murder room.
This, friends, is my someday office.
And this, friends, is my excited face. :-/
After our enormous renovation is over, the best I could do for a home office is a corner of the basement that I’m praying at least gets some drywall. I will have a desk upstairs in the shared office (slash/sun room – slash/study), but it’s not nearly big enough to hold all of the crap I need (and it is indeed a lot of crap!) for my design business. Shipping boxes, paper samples, a printer, even more paper samples, templates, ink cartridges, envelopes, rulers, scissors, twine in every color…you get the idea.
Anyway, I’ve accepted the fact that I will have worlds ugliest office in which I have to try and inspire myself to make very non-ugly things for people. Sigh. As a result, I’ve decided to make the best of it and see if I can’t make a super cute office anyway. Ha! I really want to challenge myself to make something great out of something really, really, horribly ugly!
As always, I’m starting with a lot of general research to get an idea of what I like in a feminine office. I know that my office will probably not end up looking like any of these spaces (they have windows!) but it’s fun to see what miiiiiiight be able to happen anyway!
WARNING: if pink isn’t your jam you might want to stop reading now! Haha. These offices are over-the-top girly, but I’m loving that vibe in this space. My husband has a manly garage, my baby has a toy filled game room, and I’m going to have a girly-girl office! (If you’re not sure how to incorporate pink in your home, but you want to, start here.)
I absolutely want to LIVE in this room. It has been, for a long time, my very favorite room on the internet, I’m obsessed with those windows (omg!), that door, the exposed brick, wooden ceiling… Swoon!
More wooden ceiling love! This room has a bit of a midcentury vibe that I’m kind of feeling these days.
For the purist in all of us. Pretty sure I couldn’t do all white everything though, it’s a bit too sterile.
More French door amazingness. And the pink, and the brass, and the light. If this doesn’t say beautiful, feminine office then I don’t know what does.
I kind of like the idea of a tufted wingback, chair. It feels so feminine and in charge, perfect for getting work done!
Then there’s the idea of having no back on a chair, which is totally not realistic for me, but it is adorable here. I like this room because it has about as much of a window as I’m going to get, but it still manages to be fab.
Small, windowless space that looks ah-maze-ing. I could sit there for hours and get so much work done…
Yea, yea, yea, it’s the opposite of window-less but it’s so amazing I had to include it. Plus it’s not exploding with pink but is still feminine, it’s a good mix.
White walls, white desks, wooden floors, hints of pink, exposed brick where possible…I’m seeing a theme here. And I love it.
Someone please source that desk for me! Also, love the animal print carpet.
Sigh…now back to reality in the murder room. Sadly though, my office project is far, far, far down the list. Like probably not happening until 2018. But I want to put a lot of thought into what I do down there since it’s the only space in the house that will be all mine. And it’s one heck of a challenge! Ugly gray brick basement into a feminine office? Eeesh, stay tuned…
