Hi friends! I am LOVING everything I see this year in terms of holiday decor trends. There are some wonderful ideas and stunning rooms out there! Below I have collected some of my favorite holiday decor trends and ideas to help you turn your home into the perfect (festive!) winter wonderland. So let’s get started…
Simple is Best
I have a tendency to go NUTS during the holidays when it comes to decorating my house, but honestly, there’s no need. Monotone (and often neutral!) color schemes are in. As is an edited and cohesive look.
Twinkle Lights Everywhere
Gone are the days where every strand of lights needed their own outlet. With (quality) battery powered twinkle light strands available at the same price as their plug-in counterparts, you can finally put them anywhere. Try intertwining them into your garland wrapped around the banister, a wreath hanging in the middle of a wall, or going down a runner at the center of your table. Too many twinkle lights is just not a thing this year.
Creative Gift Wrap
Growing up my mom wrapped the most beautiful gifts (she worked at Macy’s back in the day when they had a gift wrapping station on-site! She was a pro!) As the gifts piled up through December she would place them all over the house as part of the decor. It’s honestly kind of brilliant. You don’t have to buy as many decorations AND you get to spread joy all throughout the house. Going up the stairs, along baseboards, on the fireplace hearth and on a dining room server are a few suggested locations. Even a few in the corner of the powder room make for a cute, unexpected, bit of cheer.
Non Traditional Color Schemes
This year try something besides your expected red and green. I always love silver and/or gold Christmas decor. The feminine touch of peach and blush colors in the picture below also create a cheery holiday vibe.
Have an old chippy-paint ladder or an old metal and wooden sled? Add some greenery and a bow to them for a beautiful vintage holiday scene. With family getting together and participating in decades-old traditions, there is something quintessentially classic about the holidays making vintage decor is the perfect touch.
Coordinating Gift Wrap
Whether you wrap everything in the same paper, or use the same color scheme throughout, coordinating your wrapping is a great way to add thoughtful decor under your tree (or around your house)! There are tons of ideas on Pinterest about “unique Christmas gift wrap” but I am especially loving when people use greenery in lieu of bows.
Of all the holiday decor trends, this one is my favorite because it can last all winter long. Houndstooth, buffalo check, plaid – there are so many great ‘winter’ patterns that work beautifully with holiday decor. A warm plaid throw blanket or this adorable patterned tray set from McGee & Co is the perfect, understated holiday touch.
