I thought since my kitchen is being torn apart (and thus quite ugly) I’d share a kitchen with you that caught my eye this week. Chelsea Mayo, a designer for Homepolish, recently updated her kitchen and I love it.
First of all, I love blue and white anything. But here it’s especially interesting because the color combo is considered a ‘classic’ and is typically used in more traditional designs. Her blue and white kitchen, however, is decidedly modern and I love that. The traditional color scheme makes her almost-all-white modern kitchen seem inviting and comfortable.
It’s also not enormous. Although I love big kitchens (who doesn’t?) I am always extra impressed when a small kitchen is show-stopping. The design of the space is much more complicated and every square inch must be both beautiful AND useful. Chelsea gets it right. Her amazing ceiling definitely helps make the space feel larger and adds a wow-factor of character.
The seating area which opens to the kitchen is also lovely and continues her blue and white theme. That wall of windows isn’t half bad either!
The dining area is again modest in size and contemporary in style. I’m torn on the sheer window treatments, as I don’t think it’s what I would have done, however they do add a softness to the angular and somewhat bare dining area.
The light in this room is just perfect. Chelsea mentions that when she bought the house, the wood ceiling was stained and she painted it white to help open up and lighten the space. I think she made the right choice!
Below are a few more pictures of her airy and modern blue and white kitchen for your swooning pleasure…
