Building a patio is tiring, complicated, and darn expensive!
I guess, essentially, we are building a whole new outdoor room – hence the complication. And we have no furniture – hence the expense. And previously there was no patio – hence the exhaustion. But nonetheless – our little backyard patio project has started to eat up more consecutive weekends than I anticipated. Uh-oh, I know this feeling!
But there is always (always!) a silver lining to projects that take more time and effort than expected — we end up enjoying them that much more. There is an undeniable and direct correlation between the amount of labor we put into a project and how much we take pleasure in the results. I didn’t realize that I would be this excited about having a patio, but I have to admit that I just love it! Having my own outdoor space where I can relax and enjoy the summer weather is a luxury I’m excited to indulge in daily.
There is still a lot to do (of course!) like hang lattice under the deck, install outdoor lighting (twinkle lights anyone?!), organize the grilling area, build a fence, fix the deck and add a dining table and umbrellas for shade. But for now, with our mostly done patio, we’ve already started to cherish time under the sun in our newly designed, open-air living room.
I can already smell the spicy aroma of BBQ cookouts and hear the dull clink of plastic wine glasses. Cheers to summer!
