We are finally nearing the end of work in the master suite (yay!) but the suite is really made up of three rooms, not two – the bedroom, the bathroom, and…oh yea…the closet!
The walls are built, the door has been installed, the lighting is wired, the switches work, everything is ready to go – except we have no actual storage yet. The other night Ian and I were discussing how we’d design the closet and we realized something – he’s a ‘hanger’ and I’m a ‘folder.’ Surely we can come up with a design that works for both of us, right?!
We’re pretty sure that we’ve settled on a simple layout that will work for both of us. One side of the closet will be all hanging, two rows of it (yay for high ceilings) and the other side will be entirely made up of shelves for our folded items. The back of the closet will remain storage free until we see what we need more of. It won’t be an intricate or fancy design, but it should work for us just fine.
The other thing we agreed on was what we would construct the storage from – pipe! Not only is it sturdy (we have a LOT of clothes!) but it also looks cool and goes with our rustic look in the bedroom/bathroom. And it helps that my dad owns a piping supply company, so we have access to all the galvanized, stainless and copper pipe we’d ever need!
Apparently we’re not alone in thinking pipe closets and shelving are a fun idea, the internet is full of examples, inspiration photos, and DIY tutorials. Below are some images (ala Pinterest) of some amazing storage units built from pipe.
It kind of makes you want to re-build your closet and re-organize all of your stuff, doesn’t it?! I’m glad Ian was on board with this plan, I think our closet will turn out looking pretty cool even though it’s a simple design. Now, as all things, we just need to get it done.
Ahh! Move-in day is fast approaching…
