Now there’s a way to get people to click on your blog post. Title it “The Best Decor.” Of course people want to know that! I mean, that’s what we’re all searching for, right?! Haha. Hopefully my advice on the subject doesn’t disappoint.
As much as I love beautiful artwork (I was an Art History major after all) and although I can’t say no to a stunning light fixture or area rug and I have a slight obsession with patterned throw pillows and blankets – my favorite decor element is a bit more simple. At the end of the day, I really just love a vase of fresh flowers. To me, nothing brightens a room faster than a small bunch of florals.
They look beautiful. They bring the outdoors in. Often times they smell fantastic. And they add an organic element that even the most beautiful artwork can’t recreate. Just look at any home decor magazine and in almost every single picture fresh flowers abound. This isn’t a coincidence, it’s on purpose, as flowers make (or at least compliment) good design.
I simply cannot go to the store and not come back with at least one, often two or more, bunches of fresh flowers. It is my kryptonite. It makes me weak. If I only had $5 left to my name and was sent to the store to buy something to keep my family sustained, sadly I’d return with a handful of hydrangeas.
I get my flower obsession from my mother. She too goes flower-crazy at the store and even gets greenery delivered to her house every other week. HA! One day! One day I will convince my husband that this is a monthly bill worth adding to all the others. Sigh, it’s good to have goals…
As much as I don’t love spring in Pittsburgh as it’s dreary and full of rain (and still so cold, gah!) I do love that it’s tulip season. Tulips bring me a simple joy unlike most other things in this world. I just love them. I mean, they were the only flower I used for my wedding. And I put them all over my house whenever I can get my hands on them. I just adore their simple, delicate look. Nothing says, “summer is coming!” like a fresh bunch of tulips next to my bed, on the kitchen table, displayed on the mantel or anywhere else in the house for that matter.
So if you’re looking to bring a fresh new element of decor into your home, look no further than a bunch of your favorite flowers. You’ll be surprised how such a simple little addition can make a world of difference in a room.
