So I probably should have written this post when I started my business, back on November 3rd. Or perhaps even before that, like in October as I was gearing up to open the shop, or in September when I officially became Incorporated, or any of the 12 months before that when I was researching, designing, planning, and simply getting used to the idea of running my own business.
So yea, this post is long overdue, BUT (!) better late than never. And as this new venture marches on, not a day goes by that I don’t learn something invaluable to my business. It really is amazing how little I knew
when I started just last month! So starting a blog now is not a pointless endeavor.
If you check out my website you will see that The Paper House is an online store specializing in paper goods (think stationery, cards, art prints, custom invitations, etc.) and accessories (think cell phone cases, mugs, makeup bags, etc.). This is where I am today, but I have big ideas for January where I plan to re-brand, re-stock, and re-design a lot of what is in the store today.
One of the things I’ve noticed about running a creative business is that I never, ever, ever stop designing. There is a lot of bad design in the world (sigh…) but when I catch a glimpse of something beautiful, something that really works, and looks damn good, I make a mental note. And I have to physically stop myself from rushing to my computer to work out my new inspiration and how I can build upon it. So that’s what January will be for me – building on all of the cataloged, but untouched, inspiration I have buried in my head, my email, my phone’s photo library, and scratched on random papers around the house. I am going to make the miserable, cold, hangover month of January explode with amazing design! (Excuse the mini pep-talk I just had with myself right there…)
So, moving forward, I will update this section of the blog with items related to The Paper House as they arise. There are TONS of things to talk about when it comes to running a business like this – everything from design inspiration to new product launches to how do I pay my taxes (?!) and everything in-between. So stay tuned as this new adventure unfolds!
