When you have as many unfinished projects as we do, picking the next one to check off the list can be complicated. What absolutely needs done? What would we like to have done? What’s our timeframe? Do we need to do anything else before we can start this? And it goes on…
We decided last week that we want to finish up the remaining 3 projects in the kitchen so that the room is completely finished. This will coincide with the tiny half bathroom wrapping up, as well as any lingering little projects in the living/dining rooms. Thus, in a few weeks time, the first floor will be TOTALLY done and liveable. I can’t wait to have a fully finished floor! And my excitement to buy furniture and decor knows no bounds!
The remaining 3 projects in the kitchen are:
- Open Shelves
- Pantry & Cabinet Doors
Since we ordered the brackets months ago and already figured out our dimensions, we decided to start with the open shelving. This is a project I’ve been looking forward to for a while now. Some projects are exciting to get into, others (like tile!) are miserable. This one happens to be one of those “ohhh yeah!” kind of projects – and so we dove right in.
The past few days have been spent measuring, cutting, routing, sanding and staining our shelves. This is one of the first times we’ve worked with all new materials rather than refurbishing old 150-year-old stuff and I have to say – it was a nice change! All that remains is applying a coat (or two) of poly on the shelves and installing them. We’ve even practiced drilling through tile so we’re ready to go!
The open shelving how-to (and reveal!) will be posted once I have pictures of the final product! In the meantime, here’s a quick look at our recent productivity…
