In my last post I reviewed all of the remaining projects in the master bedroom, and we’re getting close. But our master suite is made of two rooms and we can’t move in until both are done. Shift focus: master bathroom.
As I mentioned previously, the tile work in the master bath is finished – yay! This was a HUGE step toward completion and if we had done it ourselves we would have no outdoor area to enjoy this summer. But now that my tile buddy Sterling has moved on, we need to move forward. Here is what our bathroom looks like today:
I’ve learned that building a bathroom is a lot like building a kitchen. These two rooms have TONS of extra projects due to their complex nature. We’re not just dealing with four walls here, oh no. We have plumbing, tiling, appliances, added fixtures, code regulations, etc. Just like our kitchen, this bathroom is taking some time. But we’ve come a long way since it was just four (old) walls and it’s finally starting to resemble a real bathroom! So, without further adieu…
Master Bathroom Projects:
Demolition of Existing Walls Frame New Walls & Closet Get Framing Inspection Plumb for Shower, Sinks & Toilet Remove Ceiling Remove Old Electrical Work Install New Electrical Work (Fans/Lights/Switches) Get Electrical Inspection Build Subfloor Add Insulation Drywall New Walls Replace Old Window Build Shower Enclosure (Make Water-Tight) Tile Floor, Walls & Shower Find Vanity(Ha – I did it! Post coming soon!)
- Modify Vanity for Sinks (will explain in the post)
- Add Wood Ceiling
- Add Crown Molding (stain)
- Install Shower Glass
- Do Finish Plumbing (hook up sinks, shower & toilet)
- Install Door & Trim*
- Build Cabinet Next To Shower*
*We will probably do these after we move in
So we are most of the way there (!!) and the projects that remain aren’t nearly as overwhelming as “Demo Everything” or “Install All New Electrical Work.” Additionally, the glass guy will install the shower glass and the plumbers will do the finish plumbing, so the projects we have to do ourselves aren’t many. The end is near. But is it do-able in a month? That is our goal, and although it’s a lofty one (and we might slightly miss!) it should keep us on track for a quick finish. Yay for returning to the master suite and yay for moving out of the attic oh-so-soon!
